Acura ZDX

The first generation is exotic in the literal sense. Around seven thousand were built worldwide, so used body panels do not exist even in Poland -- everything is bought new from the States. The sloping roof and its glass are its alone.

The mechanicals under it are familiar, though: the first MDX and Honda Pilot platform, a 3.7 V6 of 300 hp, a six-speed automatic and SH-AWD. That engine drinks oil when servicing has been neglected, which on a car of this age is checked before rather than after.

Advance trims carry magnetic dampers. The ride is excellent, but replacing them costs a sum out of all proportion to the car itself -- its most expensive known failure.

The second generation, from 2024, is a Honda in name only. It sits on GM's Ultium and shares its engineering with the Cadillac Lyriq. An American electric car with a Japanese badge.

Which is where the practical problem starts. It is software on wheels, with the early-life faults to match in the electronics, the charging and the infotainment. Honda's official workshops here have no diagnostic equipment for a GM platform, so any serious work on the motors or the battery leads back to the States.
