The second generation, 2013-2018, is the naturally aspirated one. A 3.5 J35 V6 of around 275 hp with a conventional six-speed. No turbo, nothing complicated, cylinder deactivation makes it bearable on a long run, and an ordinary LPG conversion fits without trouble. That is why this period is the one people look for.

The third, from 2019, is a different car. A 2.0 turbo K20C5 of 272 hp -- the Civic Type R's block, detuned -- with Honda's ten-speed. Considerably quicker, but the engine is direct-injection: LPG is possible only in liquid phase and it is expensive. If the sums involve gas, the second generation is the one.

Read the drivetrain off the lot, not the model. Up to 2018 the system is ordinary AWD, close to a CR-V's. From 2019 comes the real SH-AWD with an active rear differential splitting torque between the rear wheels -- a serious difference through a corner and in winter.

Front-drive-only cars arrive regularly from the southern states. Not the rule, but not rare, and a large luxury crossover on front drive is a much harder sell here. The photographs do not show it; the VIN does.

Two expensive details. The 2019-on front end -- the huge diamond grille and the sharp LED headlamps -- is the first casualty of a frontal impact, and there is no European equivalent: grille, bumper, radiators and lamps come from the States or from Poland. The base suspension shares parts with the CR-V, but A-Spec and Advance run adaptive dampers, expensive to replace if the car arrives with them blown.
