Jeep Cherokee

The name first, because it breaks the search. After 2001 Jeep sold the Liberty in Europe under the Cherokee name, so somebody here thinking "Cherokee 2005" has a different car in mind. Ours start at 2015 and are all KL — the modern crossover with the split headlights, not the boxy XJ and not the Liberty.

The diesel is missing entirely. The European Cherokee sold mainly with the 2.0 and later the 2.2 MultiJet — 185 or 200 hp, flexible, with a reasonable thirst. In our stock the diesel count is zero. What comes from America is petrol, and the choice is between two engines with very different reputations.

The 3.2 Pentastar V6, about 271 hp, is the smaller brother of the Wrangler engine. Naturally aspirated and durable, which is exactly why it takes an LPG conversion well — the main reason it is sought here. In Europe it was offered almost only on the Trailhawk and rarely bought because of the taxes. The 2.4 Tigershark is the base four-cylinder, about 180 hp, and it has to be said plainly: it is weak for the weight of this body and has a reputation for drinking oil. It is also the one we hold most of. The 2.0 turbo with 270 hp arrives with the 2019 facelift — quick, but more complicated to maintain.

The gearbox is why the year matters. American and European KLs both run the nine-speed ZF 9HP, and its early years drew recalls: harsh engagement between first and second, hesitation under sudden throttle, and on some cars a fault that dropped it into neutral while moving. 2014 is the worst year and we hold none at all — ours start at 2015. On a 2015, check whether the software recalls were carried out. From 2016 to 2018 it is materially better after hardware and software changes, and after the 2019 facelift the problem is history. Almost half of what we offer is 2019 or newer.

Three things you only see on an American car. Remote engine start from the key is on almost every American Cherokee from Latitude Plus upwards — in Europe it is prohibited at the factory by emissions law, so European keys have no such button. The Sky Slider cloth roof, which folds back electrically, was offered in America between 2014 and 2017 and never in Europe. The other way round: European cars have headlight washers and American ones do not. And a practical one — the rear indicators have to be converted to amber before the car passes the Bulgarian inspection.
